Founded in 1477, Uppsala University (UU) is the oldest center of higher education in Scandinavia and one of northern Europe's most highly ranked universities. With its extensive experience in running several major international projects in research and education UU is actively executing major EU cooperation programmes such as Lifelong Learning, Tempus, Erasmus Mundus, Asia-Link and Leonardo da Vinci. The university supports the transfer of technology thanks to a centre of innovation, which helps with the creation of companies of high technologies resulting from the research laboratories. The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University carries out theoretical and experimental high quality, internationally recognized, research within atomic, molecular or condensed matter physics as well as physics education research. The Department proposes, in particular, a Master Programme in Physics whose courses are taught in English.
