MAX-lab is a national laboratory operated jointly by the Swedish Research Council, and Lund University. It supports three distinct research areas: Accelerator Physics, research based on the use of Synchrotron Radiation and Nuclear Physics using energetic electrons. Time at the facility is shared between groups working within these three fields. The research performed at MAX-lab covers disciplines such as physics, chemistry, biology, material science, geology, engineering and medicine. Scientists, whether visiting or from the MAX-lab staff, have a common goal: to expand the frontiers of knowledge within their field, and to develop new ways of seeing and understanding the world. The multidisciplinary nature of the MAX-lab user community brings scientists from different areas in contact with each other, often with surprising results. This makes MAX-lab a melting-pot for ideas and issues, sometimes resulting in successful collaboration between people from different fields of research.
